When people used to ask me what I did, I would say, “I’m an Ayurveda Practitioner, it’s the sister science of yoga.” Which would be met with a blank stare. First off I have changed my pitch to “I practice Traditional Medicine, specializing in Women’s Digestive Health” and second let me explain why Ayurveda is the sister science of yoga.
Traditionally in India when people got sick they would go to one of two places, an Ayurveda Practitioner or to the Temple, if the place they went first didn’t work they would go to the other. Ayurveda literally translates to the science of life/longevity. It is a science based on the principles of living in tune with the cycles of nature and working with the elements to bring about balance in the body. When people went to an Ayurveda Practitioner they were healing their physical body and mind. Yoga is considered a spiritual science. When people went to the temple they were looking to heal their spirit or try to heal a karmic issue. Below is a video using Ayurvedic knowledge to explain a Yoga Sutra. Watch Video click here.
